Education Law Attorney, Poyner Spruill
Amy joins our Better Blood Project team as an Education Law attorney at Poyner Spruill. Her practice group represents local school boards, private schools, and charter schools across North Carolina. Amy focuses her practice on special education issues, including disputes arising under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and North Carolina state policies governing services for students with disabilities.
Amy received her law degree from Campbell University School of Law and a doctorate in school psychology from North Carolina State University. While at NC State, Amy participated in program evaluation of an NIH funded program designed to support minority students in STEM degree programs, as well as program evaluation of community-based programs focused on supporting children and families of low socioeconomic status (including children and families experiencing homelessness, and families (including many migrant families) in need of parent training and support in a pediatric clinic setting at a large regional hospital).
Lead Software Engineer, Garmin
Martin is a software engineer with over 20 years of experience in the field. With a focus on user-centered design and user experience, he has worked on a variety of projects throughout his career. Martin lived and worked in Denmark for over 7 years where he gained valuable experience working in a different culture and environment. Additionally, he spent 7 years working in public health, where he developed a deep understanding of the importance of designing software that is accessible and easy to use by everyone. Currently, Martin is working for Garmin where he continues to apply his expertise in user-centered design to create innovative and intuitive software solutions.
Entrepreneur, Artist, Business Owner
Sharon received a Bachelor's of Science in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. Her career has spanned multiple industries with her current position landing her as a small business owner. Sharon has also been involved in the not-for-profit world, most recently focusing on the lack of affordable housing for those underserved in her local community. Sharon's health journey made her eager to serve on the Better Blood Project's Board of Directors. As a cancer survivor, she understands and values the healing impact of advocacy, empathy, and kindness.
